Rosie's Helping Hands - Changing Children's Lives...

Grants and donations are made through the wonderful support of the public, enabling the charity to help voluntary groups based within a 15 mile radius of Aldridge, West Midlands, UK.

We aim to make a difference to small charities and projects, often buying items or activities that will benefit many children and young people.

We are pleased to continually support the work and activities of: Clayhanger Youth Club, Beacon Football Club in Willenhall, The Swing in Walsall and Forward 4 Work in Birmingham.

Computer for Children’s Ward.
We were delighted to hand over the Dell
Streak computer to Play Specialist John
Morris at Sandwell Hospital Children’s
Ward. The hand held computer will be
programmed to help young patients
overcome anxieties whilst waiting surgery
as well as being used as a ‘distraction
whilst undergoing treatment. The computer
will also provide information about recovery
and healthy lifestyle tips.

Heart Appeal Donation We choose this charity to give a
donation to from some of the proceeds
from Rosie’s 10th Charity Walk & Festival
as well as continuing our support for the vital work undertaken by local charities
and voluntary groups working with children and young people. Through the support of
Rosie’s Walk we are pleased to have given
£2000 to Birmingham Children’s Hospital Heart Appeal to help towards equipping
the new cardiac theatre.

4 Steps to a Smile – Walsall Christmas Tree Appeal.
Over 1,000 were collected and given to children in need of support over Christmas 2011. Thank you to everyone who donated a gift and brought smiles to the faces of many children in the area.

The Hothouse at Redhouse in Aldridge received a grant to buy amongst other items new games table for the children’s and youth Club which meet there regularly throughout the year. This is a great meeting place for people living in the area and provides activities for all ages. http://www.thehothouse.org.uk/

PB Radio is a student run radio station based at Plantsbrook School in Sutton Coldfield. The radio station provides students of all ages with the opportunity to learn a wide range of media skills and provides valuable working experience of how a radio station operates, from scheduling and writing programmes to presenting and keeping a website up to date. Rosie’s Helping Hands enabled the students to replace their old broadcasting equipment to ensure the station continues to provide music and news to the school and local community http://www.pbradio.co.uk/

Trans Life Centre in Kingstanding received help with their summer play scheme to provide supervised activities for children in the area keeping them occupied through the long summer break from school.

Sandwell Hospital Children’s Ward will soon have a ‘distraction’ hand held computer following a request from the ward staff who wish to improve the theatre preparation, distraction therapy for adolescents and therapeutic work with anxious children. This modern technology will greatly benefit many children and young people in hospital.

Emergency cots for babies at risk.
Children’s writing competition.
A Trike for a young man with special needs.

A Holiday Club held at St Thomas’s Church in Aldridge received funding to help with art and craft materials for their popular project held during the school holiday that provides fun activities for children aged 5 to 11 years.

Friends of Coronation Road in Selly Oak received help towards a residential trip for 30 children and teenagers who are sibling carers, have special needs or are at risk of social exclusion. The youngsters are from deprived backgrounds where holidays are not an option, so this will be a great opportunity for them to have their only holiday.

Clayhanger Youth Club continue to receive funding for the cost of room hire enabling the youth and children’s club to meet each week in the village.

The Swing Project (part of the charity Walsall Bereavement Support Services) continues to receive support towards the provision of free counselling and workshops for children and young people following the death of a parent, sibling or close relative or friend. http://www.wbss.org.uk/childrens_young_people_counselling_services.htm

Piccolo Bambini is a new pre-school group based at Pelsall Community Centre, offering pre-school facilities to the community. A grant from Rosie’s Helping Hands has helped the group to buy start up toys and sensory equipment for the pre-school group.
